The town

Ooty, in October.

Cold mornings far from town

Ooty is a town in the Nilgiri Mountains of Tamil Nadu located at an altitude of 2,240 m. It features a subtropical highland climate with temperatures generally lower than the surrounding plains. The town serves as a market town for the surrounding area which is largely dependent on agriculture.

October here
12–19°C, rain most daysBy the numbers the months to come are Jan and Feb. Ten years of measured days, not a brochure. Worth 3 nights. With multiple distinct areas like Havelock Rd, N Lake Rd, and Doddabetta Peak, you need at least three days to explore the gardens, lakes, and viewpoints without rushing.
Worth a morning
A local adds
  • The Murugan Temple, Elk Hill is a quiet place mostly visited by locals.
  • The Ooty Municipal Market holds a daily wholesale auction of local agricultural products.
Not worth it
  • Ooty Viewpoint may be isolated and located on private property.
Carry
  • Bring a rain jacket and shoes that dry for the wet season.
  • Pack a warm layer for cold nights in January.
  • At 2,235 m the sun is strong even when the air is cool: sunscreen and a hat, whatever the month.

Location of the property is good. Sunrise view point is good (atleast for photos). Service is prompt and excellent. Buffet breakfast is also good and had multiple options to eat. Staff is very courteous. Negative thing is entire property is tightly packed. And rooms & beds as well as Bathrooms feel smaller. But yes, they are very clean.!

We had an amazing 3-day stay at Mango Hills, Shola, Ooty with our 5-year-old. The property is even more beautiful in real life than in the pictures, surrounded by breathtaking greenery and a peaceful atmosphere. The highlight of our stay was the exceptional hospitality. A special mention to Mr. Biswal, the Restaurant Manager, who went one step ahead every single time to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience. The food was delicious throughout our stay, and compliments to the talented bakery chef for the incredible baked treats! A perfect place for a relaxing family vacation. Highly recommended, and we would love to visit again!

Here’s a polished English review message for Mango Hill Shola Ooty: We had a wonderful stay at Mango Hill Shola Ooty. The property, its location, and the overall service were truly excellent. A special thanks to the food in-charge, Mr. BISWAL AND HIS TEAM, who was extremely helpful and supportive throughout our stay. He especially took great care of our children by arranging fresh chapatis and ensuring our food requirements were properly managed. We are also very happy with the Jain food service provided at the property. Everything was prepared with care, and we did not face any issues at all. The hospitality and personal attention from the team made our stay even more comfortable and memorable. Thank you once again for the amazing experience.

We had an excellent experience at Mango hill stay. The stay was quite awesome. The rooms were clean and service was very good. Overall good experience and value for money. Need to mention Sudharshan and Syed service for extra special care and hospitality. We stayed with twin babies and we have been provided baby food whenever we required.

It’s an excellent new hotel and well maintained property. Courteous staff and immaculate house keeping. Food at Buffet breakfast and dinner is quite extensive and tasty. I wish the property were renting scooters to go to city and sight seeing. Auto or cab is the only mode of transportation. Majority of the residents have their own car.I also recommend the management to start working on activity for hotel guests with corresponding transportation.
