Getting thereWhere you arrive, and how far it is
The town

Ooty, in October.

Cold mornings far from town

Ooty is a town in the Nilgiri Mountains of Tamil Nadu located at an altitude of 2,240 m. It features a subtropical highland climate with temperatures generally lower than the surrounding plains. The town serves as a market town for the surrounding area which is largely dependent on agriculture.

October here
12–19°C, rain most daysBy the numbers the months to come are Jan and Feb. Ten years of measured days, not a brochure. Worth 3 nights. With multiple distinct areas like Havelock Rd, N Lake Rd, and Doddabetta Peak, you need at least three days to explore the gardens, lakes, and viewpoints without rushing.
Worth a morning
A local adds
  • The Murugan Temple, Elk Hill is a quiet place mostly visited by locals.
  • The Ooty Municipal Market holds a daily wholesale auction of local agricultural products.
Not worth it
  • Ooty Viewpoint may be isolated and located on private property.
Carry
  • Bring a rain jacket and shoes that dry for the wet season.
  • Pack a warm layer for cold nights in January.
  • At 2,235 m the sun is strong even when the air is cool: sunscreen and a hat, whatever the month.

Every line above is a record allto stood behind for Ooty, and 9 days were worked out from its map. Where to eat, below, is matched from the same record.

We stayed at Sleeping Beauty during our trip to Coonoor. Although it is marketed as a resort, I would describe it more as a small hotel. It is located in Aruvankadu, between Coonoor and Ooty. The property has around eight rooms, a dining area, and parking facilities. ### Pros * The rooms are clean and equipped with basic amenities and accessories. * A smart TV is provided with access to OTT platforms, including Netflix. * The hotel is surrounded by tea plantations and offers beautiful mountain views, which is a major highlight. * Since there are only a few rooms, the staff can provide quick and attentive service. * The breakfast buffet was decent, and the cold coffee was particularly excellent. ### Cons * You need to cross about four hairpin bends to reach the property. * Some parts of the roads leading to the hotel are still under construction, making the drive slightly challenging, especially for larger vehicles navigating the sharp turns. * There are very limited indoor recreational activities or games available. ### Overall I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The courteous staff, prompt service, and scenic location amidst tea plantations made the stay enjoyable. While the approach road could be improved and the recreational options are limited, it is a good choice for those looking for a peaceful stay close to nature.

An incredible experience at Sleeping beauty by Nature Resorts! This property is impeccably maintained, from the lush, expansive gardens to the cozy porch and relaxing views of the Nilgiris. The views are breathtaking. The rooms are clean, well-heated, and very comfortable. The staff is exceptional—polite, well-trained, and genuinely caring. A special mention to Flora ma'am and kitchen staff for the amazing, fresh-cooked meals and the warm welcome with herbal tea. Everything was perfect, and we can’t wait to return!

Had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Right from the manager, Mr. Vinod, to the room coordinator Mrs. Flora, everyone was extremely polite, welcoming, and helpful. Special thanks to the restaurant staff — Iman, Kalai, and Rajendran — for their excellent service and warm hospitality. Even the security guard was such a sweet and kind person, which made us feel even more comfortable during our stay. The breakfast spread was awesome with great taste and variety, and the dinner was also very good. The courteous behavior of all the staff truly made our stay memorable. Last but not least, the beautiful hill view near the hotel, within walkable distance, was an added bonus to our stay and made the experience even more special. Overall, a very satisfying and pleasant experience. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to visit again.

The location of the property is stunning with views of the mountains, valleys and tea gardens. You can also see the Toy train moving across the Nilgiri mountains. The entire staff is very helpful and polite. Mr. Vinoth, the property manager was very kind and Ms. Flora was very kind and helped us with a smooth check in. The food is really delicious, the chef is very humble and also customized the food according to our request. The views from the walk around the property are beautiful. Rooms are very clean and the overall vibe is amazing. Must recommend for anyone visiting Coonoor/Ooty.

My family and I stayed at Sleeping Beauty by Nature Resorts for 3 nights in total. The first thing we noticed was the breathtaking view from the property. The service at the resort was excellent, the staff gave personalized hospitality from the moment we arrived. A big shout out to Ramji and Flora for their unmatched service, they really made us feel at home by going out of their way to provide us with homely food and a wonderful guest experience. Would highly recommend for a quiet staycation near Ooty for any group size.
