The town

Ooty, in October.

Cold mornings far from town

Ooty is a town in the Nilgiri Mountains of Tamil Nadu located at an altitude of 2,240 m. It features a subtropical highland climate with temperatures generally lower than the surrounding plains. The town serves as a market town for the surrounding area which is largely dependent on agriculture.

October here
12–19°C, rain most daysBy the numbers the months to come are Jan and Feb. Ten years of measured days, not a brochure. Worth 3 nights. With multiple distinct areas like Havelock Rd, N Lake Rd, and Doddabetta Peak, you need at least three days to explore the gardens, lakes, and viewpoints without rushing.
Worth a morning
A local adds
  • The Murugan Temple, Elk Hill is a quiet place mostly visited by locals.
  • The Ooty Municipal Market holds a daily wholesale auction of local agricultural products.
Not worth it
  • Ooty Viewpoint may be isolated and located on private property.
Carry
  • Bring a rain jacket and shoes that dry for the wet season.
  • Pack a warm layer for cold nights in January.
  • At 2,235 m the sun is strong even when the air is cool: sunscreen and a hat, whatever the month.

We stayed for 3nights at Bouganvilla. I booked this property within a day of search, considering the location and property ambience. Didn’t research much as the date of travel was near. TBH the amount I’ve paid of 3nights was not worth it. Amount- They will ask you to pay 100%amount at the time of check in. I mean who does that ? I’ve already paid the advance at the time of booking and I was checking in and they were asking for rest of the payment. Driver breakfast- Most weird thing- first they told it’s there -food, blanket, washrooms . And at the time of checkin they mentioned it’s chargeable Room- Rooms are good but lights were less also bathtub is there but under maintenance since how long? -don’t know. Bonfire- Not doing daily, you’ve to inform them first in the morning itself . Plus it’s chargeable 1500/- per night. Lol , I mean seriously. Staff- Staff was helping , kind but only 2-4persons are there to manage the whole property. Food- Breakfast was good especially the idli chutney. But no lunch and dinner Cz of LPG shortage. You can order some snacks from their menu but please check the price list as their online pricing are different from the printed menu card. Example -Tea(online -30/ on printed -35) Overall okay but as I mentioned not worth the amount I’ve paid for the experience.Especially not for parents/senior citizens or family. Cz it will be difficult for them to adjust.

We had an amazing stay at this resort! From the moment we arrived, the staff took exceptional care of us and made us feel completely at home. The caretakers treated us like family members with genuine kindness, warmth, and support throughout our stay. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and prepared with great care. What impressed us the most was their excellent hospitality during the LPG shortage situation. Even during that difficult time, they ensured that guests received good and timely food without any inconvenience, so we never had to struggle or search for food outside. Their dedication and commitment to guest comfort were truly admirable. We also felt very safe and comfortable during our entire stay. The resort is located close to the town, making it very convenient and providing easy access to all the major tourist places. Overall, it was a wonderful experience filled with comfort, safety, tasty food, and outstanding hospitality. Highly recommended for families and travelers looking for a peaceful and caring place to stay. We would definitely love to visit again!

We had a fantastic stay at Bouganvilla in Ooty. The property is peaceful, well-maintained, and perfect for a family trip. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, especially for a large group like ours. The surroundings are calm and away from the crowded town center, which made the experience even more relaxing. The staff were courteous, responsive, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Parking was convenient, and the overall vibe of the place felt safe and family-friendly. If you’re visiting Ooty with family and want a quiet, comfortable stay without the chaos of the main market area, this place is a solid choice. Highly recommended.
